Disguising the CORONAWAIST... the rise of RANGE ANXIETY...
whats in your HOSIERY DRAWER? ... outdoor dining at home is HOTTING UP ...
T
here are strategies to stay positive,
even if we cant access our usual
options. Practising a technique
called temporal distancing where
you picture yourself in the future
is recommended. Imagine looking back over this
time and how you coped? Even researchers who
had hypothesised that peoples neuroticism would
increase as a result of the pandemic, say it decreased
slightly. It seems those suffering from neurosis
attributed their anxiety and distress to external
factors, rather than their own personalities.
For other bright sides and silver linings, see page 28.
Ù
Ù
Ù
Its fair to say most of us are tense all day now, during
this era of almost constant anxiety. A colleague
booked an appointment with her dentist firmly
convinced she needed a couple of fillings, perhaps
an extraction and maybe even treatment for a
painful abscess. When the dentist gave her a clean
bill of health she was flummoxed: what about all
the twinges and pangs? Bruxism, he said. Thats the
teeth-grinding and jaw-clenching related to stress
or anxiety. It can cause gum pain, facial pain and
headaches, and it can wear down your teeth over
time. Its widespread a dentist in New York reported
seeing more chipped and fractured molars in six
weeks than she had seen in six years.
Ù
Ù
Ù
Speaking of coronanxiety, theres another new
variety: Range Anxiety, and its got nothing to do
with your Aga. Its what one reader experienced when
her husbands Tesla ran out of charge near Waterford
and they and their vehicle had to recharge overnight
at a B&B.

What would Monsieur Dior make of MARIA
GRAZIA CHIURIs SS21 collection? While Diors
reputation was built on notoriously waspish
waists, Chiuri is championing the coronawaist.
This forgiving, elasticated style is designed to
accommodate the pandemic pounds we have piled
on. This concept translates as kimono-ish cuts, easylooking skirts, trousers and jeans. Nothing new then.

fishnets have the double-F logo; Chanel are selling
semi-sheer black tights stitched with double-C logos
stamped on in velvet; at Gucci they come nude
covered in crystals. Pradas are ribbed knit and best
for fending off chillier weather in blue, green, purple
or black. Just dont get a run in any of these most

With the vogue for patterned tights, 1980s shoulder
pads and the fashion set literally going hell for
leather, it comes as no surprise that a new series
called The Supermodels is coming soon to AppleTV.
Director BARBARA KOOPLE will be profiling the
original supers LINDA, CHRISTY, STEPHANIE and

wait, though NAOMI CAMPBELL might have to edit
her memoirs more heavily than most.

Artists ELIZABETH RIVERS, ANNE YEATS, PAT
HICKEY and LESLEY MAC WEENEY, along with
publisher LIAM MILLER, were the original founders
of Graphic Studio Dublin, Irelands oldest and largest
printmaking studio in Temple Bar. Celebrating 60
years with an anniversary exhibition, which opens
on November 28, Graphic Studio Dublin has done
much to protect the traditional skills of etching,
stone lithography and wood and lino-cutting, as
well as embracing new techniques. The work of over
70 artists and printmakers will be on display at the
exhibition, which runs until January 16.

Once Dublins most exclusive residential street,
throughout the 18th century, Henrietta Street was
home to the countrys foremost figures from church,
military and state. Here, in this elegant setting on
the north side of the city, peers rubbed shoulders
with property tycoons, clerics consorted with social
climbers and celebrated military men mixed with
the leading lights of the capitals beau monde,
establishing one the principal arenas of elite power in
Georgian Ireland. Dr MELANIE HAYES, a research
fellow in the Department of History of Art and
Architecture at Trinity College Dublin, the academic
expert on site during the development of the 14
Henrietta Street museum by Dublin City Council,
has written The Best Address in Town, to be published
this month. Beautifully illustrated, it offers a detailed
look behind the redbrick facades of the once-grand
terraced townhouses.

As we avoid indoor spaces, outdoor dining is a
magical distraction. If you want to heat your patio
quickly and with minimal fuss, an overhead electric
outdoor heater is the most eco-friendly option but
they are in such high demand, you need to order
ASAP. And as winter sets in, according to event
planner TARA FAY, you also really need to think of
the cold that rises from the ground underfoot. She
advocates a low-level heater, and suggests sourcing
an affordable sisal mat to go under your table and
chairs. And you can forget gazebos that get carried off
by the wind an architect friend says a sail is your
best option. Its a thing. Note: This sturdy maritime
steal should be pegged professionally. For more tips
on taking the inside out, see page 60.

fall of the Galactic Empire. Sounds like hungry work
